The Late Patsy Ronan

It was with great sadness that Cobh GAA Club learned of the death of former Chairman and valued member Patsy Ronan.

Patsy was a great servant to Cobh Hurling and Football Club and any GAA club throughout the country would be lucky to have a member who contributed as much as he did.

As a player he played on successful Hurling and football teams throughout his career and has the following honours to his name;

1980 – U16 County Hurling Championship (Beating St. Finbarrs in the final).

1981 – East Cork Junior B Championship (Beating St. Catherines in the final).

1985 – East Cork Junior A Hurling Championship (Beating Watergrasshill in the final)

He also played that year in the County final but Cobh came up short against Killbrittan.

1988 – East Cork Junior A Football Championship (Beating Youghal in the final)

Patsy also represented Imokilly for a number of years at senior level in both Hurling and Football.

When his playing career eventually finished Patsy also contributed by coaching Cobh's young hurlers and footballers of the future. His continued dedication would see him on the Central Committee as registrar and eventually he would  go on to chair the club.

Patsy also did tremendous work throughout the club with fundraising events etc. and none of these more important than his involvement with starting the “Poc Fada” held annually every St. Stephen’s day. A smiling face would always greet you when you went to collect your Sliotar and a friendly joke would set you on your way.

Cobh GAA members, friends and playing colleagues wish to extend our deepest sympathy to his family in this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

Reposing at Cobh Community Hospital Mortuary. Rosary on tomorrow, Saturday evening, at 7pm. Removal on Sunday, at 11am to St. Colman's Cathedral for 12 noon Requiem Mass followed by burial in St. Colman's Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
