Cobh vs Youghal

In what can only be described as the exact opposite of “leaving Cert weather”, Cobh Junior Footballers do enough to progress in East Cork Football Championship. Full Time Score an Cobh: 1-9(12) Youghal: 0-6(6)

Castlemartyr was the venue, and Cobh Footballers lined out for their second football championship fixture of the weekend. Due to the late arrival of Youghal, the game started 12 minutes late. The weather was such that waterproof and Hi-vis clothing was prominent amongst the mentors and injured players, and heavy rain played a role in what overall was a low scoring game. Early exchanges saw Cobh dominate possession but we struggled to score, until Cian Spriggs grabbed our first point from play. Conor Farrell followed with a pointed free. At 10 minutes following a perfectly timed run, Kieran Histon broke the ball to the net from close quarters. 1-2 up, and barely a Youghal attack at this stage, but Youghal settled, and began to build some attacks. From a Cobh point of view the remainder of the half was scrappy, and Youghal added 3 points, before Eoin Hastings added the final score of the half for Cobh.
Half Time Score Cobh: 1-3(6) Youghal: 0-3(3)

The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Youghal continue to dominate on the scoreboard. A early Cobh point by Shane Halahan, was offset by 3 Youghal points to leave just a point between the teams, but Three Kieran Histon points in a row reopened the gap to 4 points. Youghal continued to try to get back in the game, but points from Mark Foley and another Histon free saw Cobh stretch their final advantage out to 6 points.
