Great start for Junior Hurlers with a win against Lisgoold

The Junior hurlers got off to a great start in their first competitive game of the year, despite missing a number of players due to injury and county commitments. They had a convincing seven point win over Lisgoold, after last years championship exit at their hands. Cobh got off to a great start in the game with 1st half points from Darren Tallon, Lee Murphy, Brian Aherne and Jer Meaney, along with frees from Adam McCarthy. But Lisgoold's John Cashman got a goal for the home team when he broke through the Cobh defence leaving goalkeeper Conor McDowall with no chance of stopping the ball. Cobh ended the first half with a 3 point advantage on a scoreline of 0-11 to 1-05. Cobh had an excellent start to the second half when corner forward Adam McCarthy won the ball in the air out on the sideline and made a fabulous run at the goal which ended with the ball in the back of the Lisgoold net. Despite having a quiet first half wing forward Aidan O'Rourke exploded into life with 3 excellent points and was proving a threat to the Lisgoold defence who struggled to keep him at bay. Cobh ended up worthy winners with a seven points margin, with a final score of 1-21 to 1-14.
