U21 Hurlers Bow out to a Strong Carrigtwohill Side

Cobh played Carrig in the first round of the U21 B East Cork Championship Sunday 20th.  A Cobh team which saw a large number of the U16 County finalist from five years ago, lead by Captain Eddy Walsh took on Carrigtwohill in Midleton on a fine summer evening. Carrigtwohill started very well with a few early points and two soft goals which saw Cobh trailing by 2-04 to no score. This left a ten point deficit before Cobh registered their first score, a point on the fifteenth minute. The opposition grabbed another point before Cian Spriggs playing in front of the Carrig goal rattled the net for his first goal, another point for Carrigtwohill before Spriggs hit the net again. Despite these two goals Cobh couldn't seem to make an impact on Carrigs lead seeing a very good chance for a goal when corner forward Jack Ronan rounded his man and ran toward the posts giving a pass to William Ireland in front of the goal only for a block down by the Carrig defence to deny him a goal. The good spell of play before the interval which saw the Carrig forward line struggle to create scores didn't make any impact on the scoreboard however despite possession for Cobh as balls flew left and right of the target. As the referee ended the first half the scoreboard read Cobh 2-01 to Carrigtwohill 2-09. Despite the good play from Cobh at the end of the first half it was all Carrig from then on seeing Carrig registering 1-02 within ten minutes of the restart. A tough day for a Cobh squad which have seen a fair bit of underage success as they managed only three points in the second half with a final scoreline of Cobh 2-04 to Carrigtwohill 3-17.
