The Late Frank Ryan

It was with great sadness that Cobh GAA Club learned of the death of Frank Ryan in Liverpool.

Frank was born on Cuskinny Hill, he was a great servant to Cobh Hurling and Football Club until he emigrated in 1969. Frank was the third member of the 1968 Intermediate football team to die in the last nine months, preceded by Noel Murphy and Des Mc Groarty.

He was an outstanding goalkeeper of our successful football teams from 1965 to 1970. He was nicknamed “Yashin” after a famous Russian goalkeeper around that time. He played Hurling also for Cobh GAA Club.

Frank was a member of the “Wolves”, a local basketball team of GAA players that won the Cork Junior Basketball League in 1968. He played senior football with Imokilly and was also a very successful cross country runner.

Cobh GAA members, friends and playing colleagues wish to extend our sincere sympathy to his family in Liverpool and Cobh. May he rest in peace.
